North Augusta’s position in the Central Savannah River Area puts it squarely in the path of storms that track inland from the Gulf or coast, then funnel through the Savannah River valley. Hurricane Helene in September 2024 was the clearest recent example: sustained winds and saturated soils toppled trees across Edgefield Road, Buena Vista Avenue, and the older residential sections near Riverview Park where mature water oaks, willow oaks, and loblolly pines have been growing for 50 or more years.
